Despite all the historical sites to see in Boston, it is doubtful that young children will be eager to visit Paul Revere's house or the Boston Tea Party Ship. The Boston Children's Museum has plenty of amusements for younger tourists. Since it is designed specifically for tots, they will have much more fun and interest in the exhibits.
The Boston Children's Museum provides a learning and interactive experience in one of the United State's most historical cities.
After undergoing renovation since December 31, 2006, the Boston Children's Museum reopened April 17, 2007 with a 23,000 square foot addition. It is open everyday from 10 AM to 5 PM, except on Fridays when it stays open until 9 PM. Admission for the Boston Children's Museum varies according to age. It costs $10 for adults (16-64), $8 for seniors (65+) and children (2-15), and $2.00 for one year olds. Children under one are admitted free.
Current exhibits at the Boston Children's Museum include Airplay, an examination on how air works, Arthur's World, based on the children's show on PBS, and the Japanese House, an authentic home from Kyoto, Japan, for the kids to explore. These are just a few of the many interactive activities available for visitors of the Boston Children's Museum to explore.
A visit at the Boston Children's Museum is not complete without souvenirs to commemorate the occasion. Kids and their parents can find merchandise for purchase at the museum's gift shops. A wide array of merchandise can be found in the three gift shops to choose from: Sales and Rentals, The Museum Shop, and the Recycle Shop.
The Sales and Rentals area has replicas of the exhibits seen throughout the Boston Children's Museum for interactive viewing or purchase. They have the Bubbles, Weaving, and Raceways kits for sale. All of these kits have blueprints, program handouts, graphics, promotional materials, and assembly directions. What a better way to take a piece of the museum home? They are no small task to take on, as each kit costs between $3,000-$5,000, without the cost of materials. The exhibits here are among the most popular at the Boston Children's Museum.
For cheaper merchandise, The Museum Shop has the traditional books and toys for purchase. Visitors can peruse the aisles and choose their favorite memorabilia to take home. The Recycle Shop allows shoppers to grab a bag and stuff anything in it that catches their eye. Among the things they have are reusable strings, papers, plastics, and fabrics. They can be used to create fine arts and crafts and offer original souvenirs for tourists to keep or give as gifts. Prices are unavailable for either of these stores, but the perfect purchase can be found across a span of prices at both gift shops.
A long day at the Boston Children's Museum beats a long day at the Boston Massacre site, especially for kids. The hands-on exhibits provide hours of fun for kids and their parents alike. A great way to remember the experience is through one of the three gift shops at the Boston Children's Museum. Exhibit replicas, toys, books, and arts and crafts are sold at the stores. The Boston Children's Museum is a great escape from the more traditional sites in the city, and more interactive for the younger tourists.
